Defibrillation

  1. Apply pads in anterior position
  2. Turn the energy level to:
    • 150 for adults
    • 2-4 j/kg for pediatrics
  3. Charge
  4. Clear the bed
  5. Defibrillate X3 at 150, 150 & 150

Synchronized Cardioversion

  1. Apply pads in anterior or AP position
  2. Turn the energy level to 50 j (as MD orders)
  3. Press the SYNC button.
  4. Look for the flashing green SYNC button in the upper right corner of the screen and for the white marks on top of each QRS.
  5. Charge.
  6. Clear the bed.
  7. Cardiovert at desired wattage.
  8. Unsync if patient goes into v-fib/tach.

Pacing

  1. Apply hands-off pads in AP position if possible, otherwise anterior.
  2. Turn the dial to “pacer”.
  3. Look to the bottom of the screen – defaults are “demand”, “70 ppm” and “30mA”.
  4. Push soft key below box that says “start pacing”.
  5. Push rate button and arrowing up or down.
  6. Push output button and arrowing up or down.
  7. Change to “Fixed” mode if in PEA.
    • Push the checkmark to highlight “Pacer”. 
    • Push the checkmark again. 
    • Select “Fixed”. 
    • Push the checkmark.

 

Slaving

  1. Plug the patient ECG cable into the defibrillator side port.
  2. Plug the slave cable metal end into the defibrillator side port.
  3. Plug the other end of the slave cable into the ECG port on the HP monitor.
